Kindergarten News
For Reading we will begin Unit 5: Going Places. Our first story will be Max Takes the Train by Rosemary
Wells. It is an animal fantasy
story and we will be discussing realism and fantasy. Watch for your Family
Times newsletter! New high
frequency words, yellow, green, and blue will be added to the high frequency flashcards. Please practice daily!!
In Math, we will continue with Topic 9: Composing
and Decomposing Numbers to 10.
Students will decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 pairs in more
than one way, will find the number for any number from 1-9 that makes 10 when
added to the given number, and will classify objects into given categories;
count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.
Review daily work mats and
continue to practice addition, subtraction, and different ways to make numbers
from 4-10.
Report cards
for the 3rd marking period were sent home on Thursday,
April 2nd along with the scoring rubrics. Remember 3s are the goal for the end of Kindergarten!! Please sign and return both
the REPORT CARD ENVELOPE and RUBRICS and return both to the
teacher. REPORT CARDS ARE TO BE REMOVED AND
KEPT @ HOME. If you have any

On Tuesday, April 7th, Nina Marone, one
of the NS Lady Spartans’ Basketball players, will be visiting our class as a
guest reader. The HS librarian is
working on getting students from the high school in to read to the elementary classes
and she started with the girls’ basketball players. The goal of this program is to promote reading at the
elementary school and to make sure students understand the importance of
reading. Be sure to ask your child
about her visit!!!
On Friday, April 10th, Ms. White’s 9th
grade science students will be coming for a visit to read a story that was
written by the students as part of a their science class. It will be exciting to hear the story
they created!!
Kindergarten
Graduation Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 8th. (There will be NO make-up picture
day.) Envelopes were previously sent
home with portrait package information.
If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money BEFORE Wednesday, April 8th in your child’s folder. (Cash
or checks made payable to Lifetouch)
**All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need
a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown. Girls should not have ponytails high on
their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation
cap!
FYI: Boys will be wearing
blue gowns with red hats and girls will be wearing red gowns with blue hats.
**If you do NOT wish to purchase pictures,
please send a note stating that, so the teacher knows your child just didn’t
forget to bring the envelope/money. Thank you!!!
***Students
will be photographed beginning at 9:30 so please have your child to school on
time!
****If your child needs any
additional portrait info sheets & or order envelopes please let the teacher
know and one will be sent home.
The April PTO meeting will be held on Monday, April 6th (not
the 13th) and it will start @ 6:00 PM. An ACT 126 training by Mike Evans will follow the meeting. This training is required to be able to
participate with school activities starting with the 2015-2016 school
year. All are invited and
encouraged to attend!! **Please
refer to the note sent home Wed., 4/1.
Kindergarten Physicals will be held on Thursday, April 23rd
for any children who received a PURPLE note in their folders from the
nurse. **If you did not receive a note then a physical is NOT needed at this
time.
Thank you to ALL who generously donated to our class’ Chinese Auction
basket/bin for the PTO Spring Fling Auction coming up on April 11th
- April 12th! Our “A Night With the Family” theme
turned out GREAT! (A list of items
included in our basket/bin was enclosed in KEEP. Be sure to take a chance or more on winning it! Remember, the Kindergarten class with
the most tickets gets an Ice Cream Party!!!)
Monday, April 6th is Day 2—Music
class. Students will need
library books on Tuesday, April 7th and sneakers and gym attire on Thursday,
April 9th.
