Week of March 9-13, 2015

Kindergarten News 

**For Reading we will finish the story One Little Mouse and introduce the classic traditional tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears as retold by Valeri Gorbachev.  We will review the comprehension skill, character and the letter sound /g/.  Watch for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.  Also don’t forget to practice your high frequency sight word flashcards!!

**In Math we will finish Topic 7, Understanding Addition and begin Topic 8, Subtraction.  Review vocabulary; number story, join, plus sign, and addition sentence.   Continue to practice joining sets and counting how many altogether.

**Kindergarten registration for the 2014-2015 school year will be held this week, March 9-13.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

**Scholastic book orders for March are due on or by Wednesday, March 11th for anyone interested in ordering!!  Orders can be given to the teacher or placed online at scholastic.com.  (Don’t forget about the Valentine’s Day coupon from Mrs. Potts—check the expiration date at the bottom, it may only be valid until the end of March!)

**PTO FUNDRAISER PICK-UP will be Thursday, March 12th in the gym from 4-7pm.  Anyone who participated will need to stop by the school to pick up his/her orders!

**Newspaper in Education Week ended on Friday, March 6th.   Mrs. Potts’ ad was in the Monday edition (3/2).  Ads can be turned in any day before Friday (3/13) for a treat from the teacher.   The “I’m a Reader” forms, for those who participated, need to be returned to the teacher by Tuesday, March 10th with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.  Forms received after Tuesday, March 10th will NOT have students name printed in the newspaper for participating, so please send in completed forms ASAP.

**Toothbrush charts are due back ASAP.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.

**The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held in April.  Our class’ theme basket will be “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has received; A puzzle, a Yahtzee game, and some DVDs (The Croods, The Bee Movie, Homeward Bound 1 & 2).  Donations are due to the teacher by the week ending March 20st.    If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.  There is no value set and you can be creative!!  Please refer to the note sent home with suggestions and ideas!!

Just a reminder:  North Schuylkill Elementary School Yearbooks are on sale!  Cost is $17.00.  Please return all orders by Friday, March 13th.  Cash or check accepted.  Please make check payable to NSE PTO.

Monday, March 9th was Day 4 on the special classes’ schedule.  *Boys and girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Tuesday, 3/10 and library books for exchange on Friday, 3/13.
