Week of March 23-27, 2015

Kindergarten News

              

               In Reading we will finish the informational text If You Could Go to Antarctica, by author Fay Robinson and begin the fantasy trade book, Abuela by Arthur Dorros.  Abuela will be the last of our “adventure” stories for Unit 4.  We will practice the comprehension skill classify and categorize and review setting.  For Phonics we will work with the short and long sounds of the vowel letter Ee.  Please practice high frequency word cards, especially the new cards, here, go, and from.

               For Math we will finish with Topic 8 - Understanding Subtraction and move on to Topic 9 – Composing and Decomposing Numbers to 10.  Students will learn different ways to make 4 through 10 and write number sentences to show these different ways. Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.

               Due to a conflict in schedule, Mrs. Hull was not able to visit on Thursday, 3/19.  She has rescheduled for Tuesday, March 24^th @ 9:00.  Be sure to ask your child what he/she has learned!

               Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 8^th.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  An envelope with portrait package information was enclosed in your child’s RETURN.   **All students will be photographed for the class photo and all students will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown. 

               **The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 11^th and 12^th.  Our class’ theme basket will be “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has received; a $40 gift card for Pearl Movie Theatre, a $20 Friendly’s gift card, a Family Challenge Game, a Zingo game, a Yahtzee game, a puzzle, and 4 DVD movies.  Donations are due to the teacher by Friday, 3/27 at the latest.    If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.  There is no value set and you can be creative!!  You can refer to the note sent home previously with suggestions and ideas!!  Thank you in advance for your support!!  

                                             Monday (3/23/14) will be DAY 3 on the special classes’ schedule (*note the change due to the inclement weather on Friday, 3/20)  .  **Boys and girls will need library books on Monday, 3/23 for exchange and sneakers and gym attire on Wednesday, March 25^th!
