Week of March 16-20, 2015

Kindergarten News

 In Reading we finish with the classic fairy tale, Goldilocks and the Three Bears by Valeri Gorbachev and will begin an informational text titled If You Could Go to Antarctica, by author Fay Robinson.  We will work with short and long /e/ sounds and the letter Ee and practice the comprehension skill, classify and categorize.  Please practice high frequency word cards.  We will be adding the new cards, here, go, and from this week.

               For Math we will continue with Topic 8; Understanding Subtraction.  Students will act out and solve subtraction word problems, will use the minus sign to represent take away situations when recording subtraction, will use the equal sign, subtract, and write the difference.  Review practice pages as they come home in the folder.

               On Tuesday, March 17th we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day—Don’t forget to wear something GREEN.  It could be your lucky day!!!

               Mrs. Hull, our guidance teacher, will visit on Thursday, March 19th for her monthly lesson.  Take some time to discuss with your child what he/she learned!

               **The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held on April 11th and 12thOur class’ theme basket will be “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has ONLY received; A Yahtzee game, a puzzle, and 4 DVD movies (The Croods, The Bee Movie, Homeward Bound 1 & 2).  Donations are due to the teacher by Friday, March 20th.    If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.  There is no value set and you can be creative!!  You can refer to the note sent home previously with suggestions and ideas!!  Thank you in advance for your support!!

               Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, April 8th(There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes with portrait package information will be sent home in the near future.   **All students will be photographed for the class photo and all students will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown. 

               North Schuylkill Elementary School Yearbook orders need to be returned ASAP!  Cost is $17.00.   Cash or check accepted.  Please make check payable to NSE PTO.

               Friday, March 20th is officially the First Day of Spring!!  We will try to get outside for recess as much as possible, so please check the weather forecasts and temperatures to be sure to dress your child appropriately for a ½ hour of recess. 

               On March 21st the Easter Bunny will be visiting Boyer’s Food Markets!  **Your child helped decorate special posters that will be on display in the Frackville store for the Easter Bunny to seeStop in any time between 11 and 2 for your chance to see your child’s work on display and of course the Easter Bunny!  While you’re there, stop by the tables for healthy snacks and a fun craft to get you and your child ready for Easter!  Don’t forget your camera so you can take a free picture with the Easter Bunny!

                              Monday (3/16/15) will be DAY 4 on the special classes’ schedule.  **Boys and girls will need gym attire and sneakers on Tuesday, March 17th and library books for exchange on Friday, March 20th.
