Week of March 2-6, 2015

Kindergarten News
                  *For Reading our next story will be “One Little Mouse!”  by Dori Chaconas.  It will be a rhyming/concept story and we will review the comprehension skill, sequence.  We will introduce consonant blends too.  Look for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.
            *In Math we will be finishing up Addition, Topic 7.  Review vocabulary; number story, join, plus sign, and addition sentence.   Continue to practice joining sets and counting how many altogether. 
            *This month’s AR “Book Buddy” recording sheet and books are due back to school on Monday, March 2nd.  The goal for the month is 16 stories/books.  Students who meet the monthly goal will have their names entered into the end-of-the-year building-wide drawing for Accelerated Reader and will also have a star with their name added to the cafeteria wall! 
            *Kindergarten registration for the 2015-2016 school year will be held March 9-13, 2015.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this info. to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office. 
            *Toothbrush charts are due back by the end of next week—March 6th.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.  (Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great!)
            *Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 2nd and continue through Friday, March 6th.  Check for Mrs. Potts’ ad in the classified section of the newspaper.  Ads can be sent to school during the week for treats.  The “I’m a Reader” forms, for those who participate, should be returned to the teacher the following week, with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.  (Additional notes are enclosed in your child’s folder.)
            *Boys and girls are enjoying our celebration of Dr. Seuss.  Students from Bloomsburg University, Mrs. Selgrade’s 3rd grade class, and Mrs. Bernosky (retired Kindergarten teacher), visited our classroom Friday 2/27.  Be sure to ask your child about the stories and activities our guests shared with the class.  Hats off to Dr. Seuss!!             *The monthly PTO meeting will be held on Monday, March 2nd @ 6:30 in the school cafeteria.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.  (Anyone in need of meeting the required points for PTO membership as stated in the bi-laws may want to attend to help fulfill this requirement.)
            *The PTO Spring Fling Chinese Auction will be held in April.  Our class’ theme basket will be “A Night With the Family”.  So far Mrs. Potts has received:  a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle, a Yahtzee game, and The Croods and Homeward Bound 1 & 2 DVDs.  Donations are due to the teacher before Monday, March 23rd.  There is no value set and you can be creative with your donations.  Please refer to the note sent home last week with suggestions and ideas. If a family would rather not shop for a donation, monetary donations will be accepted and Mrs. Potts will shop for items for the basket.
            Just a reminder:  North Schuylkill Elementary School Yearbooks are on sale!  Cost is $17.00.  Please return all orders by Friday, March 13th.  Cash or check accepted.  Please make check payable to NSE PTO.
Monday, March 2nd is Day 3 on the special classes’ schedule.  **Boys and girls will need library books on Monday and sneakers and gym attire on Wednesday.
