Week of February 2-6, 2015

Kindergarten News (updated)
For Reading we will read the story, The Lion and the Mouse. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea.  We will review the short /o/ sound in words and continue to work with the high frequency words; they, of, and you.   Be sure to practice sight word flashcards often and watch for the new Family Times news!
In Math we will continue with Topic 6; Numbers to 100.  Continue to practice counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s.  Take some time to review daily practice pages!
Due to the snow days, report cards will now be sent home on Tuesday, February 3rd! Please keep in mind that this is a standards based report card and it is not your typical report card with “grades”.  The scoring rubric is designed with the standards that are expected to be met by the end of Kindergarten.  Your child’s goal is to score a 3, or mastery of the standard, and if he/she has scored a 1 or 2 in any areas, then these are the areas that your child needs to strengthen and improve by the end of Kindergarten.  Only some of the standards are scored during the 2nd marking period, so if you see an N/A on the report card then these standards will be scored in the 3rd and/or 4th periods.  **Be sure to SIGN and RETURN the report card ENVELOPE and rubrics.   **REPORT CARDS DO NOT NEED TO BE RETURNED—JUST THE SIGNED EMPTY ENVELOPE and Stamped Rubrics!  (If you have any questions or concerns, then please contact the teacher.)  DIBELS results for January will be sent along with report cards and do not need to be returned.  Please use the attached DIBELS pages to review scores and goals and to continue to practice for the end of the year testing.
AR “Book Buddy” recording sheets for January are due on Tuesday, February 3rd.  All students who met the goal of 16 books will have their names entered into the school-wide drawing in May and will have their names added to the cafeteria wall!  Keep reading and being shining stARrs!
