Week of November 3-7, 2014

Kindergarten News
**In Reading we will read the book Animal Babies in Grasslands by Jennifer Schofield.  We will be talking about grassland animals, review the letter Pp and the /p/ sound, and practice the comprehension skill main idea.  The words we, my, and like will be introduced as new high frequency words. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter and phonics story “Pat the Cat” to be sent home!
**To celebrate the letter Pp we will have a Pajama Party on Friday, November 7th from 8:50-11:00.  Students are asked to wear their pajamas to school.  Robes and slippers are optional, however, we ask that students WEAR sneakers or shoes to and from school.  Keep in mind that pancakes and punch will be served in the morning so boys and girls need NOT eat a lot for breakfast—unless they do not like pancakes, then they should eat breakfast as usual.
**For Math we will finish Topic 2:  Comparing and Ordering Numbers 0-5.  Take some time to practice number writing and counting sets, and be sure to review daily practice pages.
**Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Monday, November 10th.   Conference confirmation notes were sent home on Wednesday, 10/29.   Please sign and return the bottom portion by Monday, November 3rd.  If you haven’t scheduled a time to meet with Mrs. Potts or you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Potts: apotts@northschuylkill.net or 874-3661, Ext. 3245. (Please note:  There will be NO SCHOOL for students on Monday, 11/10)
**Ms. Clarissa Geary, Director of Education, Training and Volunteer Services, will be presenting a Personal Body Safety Program to the class on Monday, November 17th from 9:00-9:30.  This message encourages healthy decision-making and communication.  Should you wish to EXCLUDE your child from participating, then please indicate that on the permission slip that is enclosed in your child’s folder.  THIS FORM ONLY NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED AND RETURNED IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD TO PARTICIPATE!
**Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 2nd.  Remember to turn your clocks back 1 hour.  (**As the student handbook states, once the clocks change, students are NO longer able to wear shorts to school.  When the clocks move forward in spring then students can begin wearing shorts (weather permitting) to school again.)  FALL BACK…SPRING FORWARD
Thank you to ALL the classroom helpers who helped with the Halloween party and parade, and also to all the friends and family who came to watch the parade.  It was a BOO-tiful time for all!
**Just a reminder; Be sure your child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat (which can be kept in cubbies or backpacks) so that when we go outside for our 30 minute recess the students are prepared for any changes in temperature or for the lengthy time outside.  We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!  Also, have your child practice putting on, taking off (pulling sleeves back out), and zipping/buttoning his/her coat.
**Monday, November 3rd will be Day 3—Library.  **Students will need library books for exchange on Monday, 11/3 & gym attire and sneakers on Wednesday, 11/5.
