Week of November 10-14, 2014

Kindergarten News
**Friday, November 7th all NSE students attended an assembly in the gym titled “Mikayla’s Voice”.  The program was about Inclusion and was designed to help educate and inspire children to embrace individuals of all abilities.  Take some time to talk with your child about what he/she has learned.

**This week will read the story Bear Snores On by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman in Reading.  We will be discussing hibernation and will learn to differentiate between real and make believe. Watch for the new Family Times newsletter and phonics story to be sent home.  Practice high frequency sight word flash cards daily and phonics letter tiles on Wednesdays!!

**In Math we will be working with Topic 3: Six to Ten.  Boys and girls will learn how to read, write, and count numbers from 6-10 and show numbers in different ways.  Take some time to review the daily practice pages and try to practice these skills at home with your child.  Also continue to practice counting by 1’s to 100.  Please review, sign, and return Topic 2 test.

**Our new “Book Bags” have been coming and going and all the families have been tracking the books being read at home.  Don’t forget to record any books you read together and/or the decodable readers; Hot, Hot, Hot! and Hop on the Mop on your November record sheet.  At the end of the month, we will be posting our “AR All Stars” on the wall in the hallway!!  Try to reach your goal of 16 books per month.

**Scholastic book orders for this month are due by Thursday, Nov. 13th for anyone interested in ordering.  Orders can be placed online at scholastic.com or can be sent to school with your child!  **Make note if any orders are gifts for Christmas!

**Congratulations to Grace O’Neil for being the lucky SPARTAN PRIDE winner for Kindergarten for the month of October!  She received a Pearl Theatre gift card!!!  All the boys and girls have been doing a terrific job of showing their Spartan Pride by being RESPONSIBLE, SAFE, and RESPECTFUL!  Students who earned their pride tickets for October will be rewarded with popcorn and a special movie in the gym for all of Kindergarten on Friday, 11/7!   Way to go Kindergarten!

Thank you again to all of the parent volunteers who helped with the Halloween parade & party and thank you to the parents who helped at the Pajama Party Friday 11/7!   It was P-erfect!!!
