Kindergarten
Newsletter
We have finished our second week of school
and the students are adjusting very well!
We
have started using the behavior calendar at the back of your child’s
communication folder. Check the
calendar daily to see what “kind” of day your child had at school. (An
explanation of the calendar was sent in the Keep side of the folder on
Tuesday.)
On
Monday, we will begin our 2nd Reading story, We Are So Proud. We will work on recognizing the letters Ff, Gg,
Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm. and Nn. Watch for your Family Times newsletter and take home story—Am I?, to come home in your child’s folder. Continue to read at home, talk about
story characters (who the story is about) and setting (where and when the story
takes place), and read the high frequency words I and am.
In
Math we will finish working with Topic 14: Identifying and Describing Shapes.
Boys and girls should correctly name shapes (rectangles, squares, circles,
triangles, and hexagons) regardless of their orientation or overall size and
identify shapes as 2 dimensional, “flat” or 3 dimensional “solid”. Students should practice writing the
numbers from 0-9 while singing the number writing verses sent home in their
folders.
Students
will have HOMEWORK most Monday through Thursday nights. Check the RETURN side of your child’s
folder for homework assignments and be sure to check what we’ve been working on
at school. Remind your child to
RETURN the completed work to school the next school day. Not only does homework reinforce what
we are working on at school, but also it teaches your child
responsibility. Thank you for your
support!!!
Each
Friday morning our class will meet with their 4th grade Reading
Buddies from Mrs. Reinoehl’s homeroom.
Boys and girls have been matched up with 4th graders to
listen to stories and eventually practice their own reading skills. Be sure to ask your child about his/her
buddy.
There will be a PTO meeting on
Monday, Sept. 8th in the cafeteria beginning at 6:30. All
are invited and encouraged to attend.
Anyone interested in ordering books this month, the Scholastic Book
Club orders are due on Monday, Sept. 8th. Orders can be placed online or sent in to school.

cafeteria. Anyone interested in helping with the
Kindergarten Fall Festival, which will be held on Thursday, October 9th,
is invited to attend the planning meeting. The meeting may run until the end of the school day. (Just a reminder: In order to help at the Fall Festival
you must have clearances!!) **If you would like to help, but are unable
to attend this meeting, please send a note to the teacher with your contact

the group snacks!
