Week of May 5-9, 2014

Kindergarten News

This week in Phonics we will continue w/ the two sounds of digraph oo as in the words hook and tooth and learn the long vowel rule for a vowel consonant silent e pattern as in the words hose and kite.  We refer to the silent e as a “sneaky e” which makes the vowel say its name.  Please review digraphs ck, sh, and voiced and unvoiced th.  We will not have Show and Tell.  

**Word List 24 will be tested on Thursday and/or Friday, May 8^th or 9^th.   

  In Reading we will start a new story titled, On The Move.   It is an informational text by author Donna Latham.  We will work with the letter sounds /v/ and /z/ and the comprehension skill, main idea.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter and have your child practice the Words to Read!

  In Math we will finish Topic 12 Measurement. Please review daily practice pages!

  The school Book Fair will be held in the Library, Monday, 5/5 through Monday, 5/12.  Students may shop during their scheduled Library Class/Book Exchange, Thursday, May 8^th and/or online starting Thursday, 5/1 through Tuesday, 5/20.  The online ordering can be done using the following web address:  http://onlinebookfairs.scholastic.com/default.aspx?f=3328395

(Due to the School Book Fair and limited time before school closes for the summer, Mrs. Potts will NOT be sending home any more classroom book orders.  Thank you to ALL who have participated this year.  Happy Reading!)

·      FYI:  Starting Thursday, May 1^st, students who have outstanding lunch account balances and have previously been notified via a notice in the mail, will be served an acceptable alternative lunch approved by PDE.  **All questions and/or concerns should be directed to the cafeteria, Extension 3222.

  A Green field trip permission slip, field trip form, and lunch order form were sent home in your child’s folder Friday, 5/2, attached to a green information sheet about the Kindergarten field trip to the Pioneer Tunnel in Ashland on Wednesday, May 28^th.  Please complete, sign, and return the green permission form w/ emergency contact information, the green field trip form, and the green lunch form AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.  *Keep the Information sheet!!!

**Approved chaperones will receive a pink information sheet too. (If you have any questions, then please contact the teacher.)

·      Just a reminder:  White Kindergarten Graduation DVD order forms were sent home in your child’s folder last week.  If interested in ordering, please return it w/ payment to Mrs. Potts NO later than Monday, May 5^th.  **Each DVD will be $10 and checks can be made out to Legal-Eze Video

Monday, May 5^th is Day 5 and students need gym attire and sneakers. 

**Thursday, 5/8 is Library class so do not forget library books for RETURN and Book Fair $$ if your child will be shopping at school!
