Week of March 31-April 4, 2014

Kindergarten News
·       This week we will be learning the letter Qq as in quilt.  The girls will finally get to be Queens for a Day on Wednesday, April 2nd!  We will learn about combination “qu” too.  The boys and girls will even be invited to participate in a special wedding ceremony for Q and U sometime the following week.  (Details will follow sometime this week.)  There will be NO show and tell for the letter Qq.  **Word List 19 will be tested on Friday, April 4th!   Just a reminder:  Only the odd numbered lists will be sent home for practice!!

·       For Reading we will complete Unit 4 with a benchmark test and will not begin Unit 5 until the following week.  No ½ sheet homework next week!

·       In Math, we will begin Topic 10: Composing Numbers 11-19.  Review daily work mats and continue to practice addition, subtraction, and different ways to make numbers from 6-10.

·       Report cards for the 3rd marking period will be sent home on Friday, April 4th along with the scoring rubrics.  The rubrics have been changed a bit since the 2nd marking period and you may see more opportunity for your child to earn a 4, but remember 3s are the goal for the end of Kindergarten!!  Please sign and return both the report cards and rubrics and return both to the teacher.  Report cards will be given back to keep after the teacher receives them.  If you have any questions and/or concerns, then please contact the teacher at either apotts@northschuylkill.net or 570-874-3661, Ext 3245.

·       Students in Grades 3-6 will be taking the PSSA tests all week 3/31-4/4.  Kindergarten’s schedule for the week will be switched around and our special classes will be held 9-9:40 (with the exception of Thursday 4/3 due to Graduation pictures from 9-11 and special class 11:00-11:40), lunch will be 11:40-12:10, snack will be 1:45-2:00, and recess will be 2:00-2:30. Please talk to your child about being quiet while in the hallways during testing days!!  The regular schedule will resume on Monday, 4/7.

·      Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 3rd.  (There will be NO make-up picture day.)  Envelopes were sent home with portrait package information.  If interested in purchasing pictures then please return the money before Wednesday, April 2nd in your child’s folder(Cash or checks made payable to P.S.P)  **All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt to wear under a graduation gown.  Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap!
**If you do NOT wish to purchase pictures, please send a note stating that, so the teacher knows your child just didn’t forget to bring the envelope/money.  Thank you!!!
***Mrs. Potts’ class will be photographed first at 9:00 am so please have your child to school on time!
****If your child needs any additional portrait info sheets & or order envelopes please let the teacher know and one will be sent home.
