Week of February 24-28, 2014

Kindergarten News 

            ~This week we will be working on the letter Dd as in dog and dinosaur.  There will be NO Show and Tell, but in its place we will be giving our dinosaur reports.  Please follow your classroom schedule and the date written at the bottom of the information sheet!  (Please note that the Friday students will share on Monday, 3/3 instead of 2/28)  **Details and information about the reports were sent home in your child’s folder on Wednesday, 2/19.  Word List 14 will be tested on Thursday, February 27^th.  Please practice daily!

            ~For Reading we will read the story, My Lucky Day, by Keiko Kasza.  It is an animal fantasy (fiction) story and we will focus on the comprehension skill cause and effect.  This week we will review the /l/ sound and connect it with the letter Ll.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter!  **Also, don’t forget to practice your high frequency sight word flashcards!!

            ~In Math we will continue with Topic 8: Subtraction.  Students will be comparing, problem solving by acting out and using objects, using the minus sign, and finding differences.  Please review daily workmats/lessons. 

            ~Kindergarten registration for the 2014-2015 school year will be held during the week of March 3-7.  Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District.  Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall.  Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

`           ~Friday, February 28^th is NSE’s Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday.  Throughout the next two weeks we will be reading some great books by Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories.  Some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom on Friday to read the book, Green Eggs and Ham, and do a follow up activity with the students.  We may have a guest reader and also work with Mrs. Selgrade’s 3^rd grade class with the book “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”!  Be sure to ask your child about their day!

~Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools.  It will be starting on Monday, March 3^rd and continue through Friday, March 7^th.  **Be sure to watch for additional notes that will be sent home in your child’s folder next week.

 ~Toothbrush charts will be due back at the start of March.  Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts.  Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great!

Monday, February 24^th will be Day 1—Computers, on the special classes’ schedule.  Students will need Library books for Wednesday, February 26^th so be sure to pack library books for exchange and Friday, February 28^th will be gym class so students will need to wear sneakers!!!
