Week of February 10-14, 2014

Kindergarten News

**This week we will finish up our work with the vowel letter Ee, and will also introduce the consonant letter Yy and its sound as in yarn and yellow.  Please continue practicing writing and identifying all the letters we have learned so far.  There will be no Show and Tell!  **Word List 13 will be tested next Thursday, February 13^th or Friday, February 14^th.  Practice daily!!!

**For Reading we will continue with the story Hide Clyde! and we will be testing with the Unit 3 Benchmark test.  Review high frequency sight words!

**In Math we will finish Topic 7: Addition.  Our test is scheduled for Tuesday.  Our next Topic will be Subtraction.  Please review counting sets, joining sets, and writing addition sentences using a plus sign and equal sign.

**Scholastic book orders for the month of February are due on Wednesday, February 19^th for anyone interested in ordering.

**Due to the snow day on Wednesday, 2/5, students will now have school on Friday, February 14^th, which was originally an ACT 80 day for teachers only.  **See updated calendar and school news!

**On Friday, February 14^th we will be having our Valentine’s party from 1:30-3:00.  Valentines will be “delivered” at the party, so be sure to bring them to school before then!  (Please note this change from Thursday, February 13^th.) 

**FYI:  Due to the inclement weather and school cancellations/delays this week the Girl Scout Meeting scheduled for Thursday, 2/6 had been cancelled.

**The monthly PTO meeting will be held on Monday, February 10^th @ 6:30 in the school cafeteria.  All are welcome and encouraged to attend.  (Anyone in need of meeting the required points for PTO membership as stated in the bi-laws may want to attend to help fulfill this requirement.)

**Happy 7^th birthday to Jonathan Smith.  He celebrates his birthday on Friday, February 7^th!  Also, Happy ½ birthdays to Olivia Lawson and Julian Nelson.  We celebrated Olivia’s July 8^th birthday on Thursday, Feb. 6^th and will celebrate Julian’s July 9^th birthday on Monday, Feb. 10^th. Best Wishes to all three!

**Don’t forget to brush and floss your teeth at least 2 times a day!  Your smile is counting on you!!! 

Monday, February 10^th will be Day 1 – computers.  Library book exchange will be Thursday, Feb. 13^th so be sure to pack your books, (Note that Wednesday, 2/12 is also Day 3, but students will be participating in NSE’s Jump Rope for Heart in the gym—not library.  Boys and girls can dress for gym for Jump Rope for Heart Wednesday, Feb. 12^th).
