Kindergarten News
**This week we will be learning about the
consonant letter Jj and its sound as in jump and jar. Instead
of the usual Show & Tell we are asking that students tell a joke to the
class rather than show a Jj item.
If you do not know a joke, you could do an internet search for kids’
jokes and riddles, look for a joke book at the library or local bookstore, or
check out the Mini page jokes in the newspaper. Be prepared to laugh
your way through the week! **Word List 17 will be tested on Monday,
March 4th. Please practice
daily!!!
**For Reading we
will begin Abuela, by Arthur Dorros. This will be the last of our
“adventure” stories in Unit 4. It
will be a fiction story about a city adventure and the boys and girls will
learn a few Spanish words. We will
focus on the comprehension skill, setting. We will review the sound of short /e/. Watch for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder.
**In Math we will be
working on paying for items to 50 cents using nickels, counting by 5’s to 100,
identifying a cylinder and ordering objects by height, and identifying,
creating, and extending ABC patterns.
Take some time to practice at home and review daily practice worksheets.
**Kindergarten
registration for the 2013-2014 school year will be held during the week of
March 4-8. Registration is open to
all residents of the NS School District.
Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to
begin Kindergarten in the fall.
Appointments should be scheduled with the office.
**Friday,
March 1st is Read Across
America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Throughout the week we will be reading some great books by
Dr. Seuss and making some fun things to go along with the stories. Some graduate students from Bloomsburg
University will visit our classroom on Friday to read the book, The Cat in the Hat, and do a follow up
activity with the students. We may have a guest reader and also work
with Mrs. Selgrade’s 3rd grade class with the book “One Fish, Two
Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”! Be
sure to ask your child about their day!
**Toothbrush
charts are due back at the end of next week. Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental
health” treat from Mrs. Potts.
(Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth,
and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great!)
**Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the
Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our
schools. It will be starting on
Monday, March 4th and continue through Friday, March 8th. Be sure to watch for additional notes that
will be sent home in your child’s folder next week.
**Thank you to the parents for helping the boys and girls to
prepare for their dinosaur reports this week for the letter Dd. They did a DINO-mite job!
Monday, February 25th is Day 5 on the special classes’ schedule. *Boys
and girls will need sneakers and gym attire on Wednesday, February 27th
and library books on Friday, March 1st.
