Week of January 14-18, 2013

Kindergarten News
·      This week in Phonics we will begin learning the consonant letter Zz as in zebra and zoo.  We will NOT be having Show & TellStudents will be learning their Zip codes.  Next Friday, Mrs. Potts will ask students to say their zip codes and treats will be given!  **Word List 11 will be tested on Thursday or Friday, January 17th or 18th.  Please practice daily!

·      We will be starting the book Hide Clyde! for Reading.  It will be about a chameleon that changes so he can hide, or camouflage himself.  We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea.  We will review the short /o/ sound in words and continue to work with the high frequency words; they, of, and you.  Watch for your new Family Times news!

·      In Math we will be comparing sets of objects and comparing numbers through 6, weighing objects using nonstandard units and ordering objects by weight, combining sets by counting on and using numbers to describe how many objects are in a set, and identifying & ordering the numbers 0-20.  Take some time to review daily practice pages!

·      Since we are soon half way through Kindergarten, the teachers are asking that each student practice tying his/her shoes.  This is a skill that we would like to see your child master before first grade.  Remember, Practice Makes Perfect!

·      Congratulations to all students who successfully completed their United States’ reports!  It was a fun and educational way to learn about some of the Fifty Nifty United States.  **Thank you to all the parents who helped “prepare” the children for their first oral report.  (Our next oral report will be with the letter Dd for dinosaur!!)

·      The 3rd marking period begins at the end of next week and report cards are scheduled to go home on Wednesday, January 23rd(not 1/18 as printed on the monthly calendar).

·      Friday, January 18th will be a half-day of school due to a scheduled ACT 80 day.  Student dismissal will be @ 11:45.  There will be NO breakfast or SNACK.


Monday, January 14th will be Day 4.  Students will need library books for exchange Monday and sneakers for gym on Thursday.
