Week of December 31-January 4, 2013

Kindergarten News
This week we will continue learning the consonant letter Bb as in boys and balloon.  Start looking for your Show and Tell for the letter Bb; however, we will NOT follow the schedule for Show & Tell, but will do ALL letter Bb show & tell on Friday, January, 4th.  **Word List 9 will be tested on either Thursday, January 3rd or Friday, January 4th.  Practice over the holidays.
We will be Kid Writing about the holidays, and the boys and girls will get the opportunity to write about what they did in their time off from school!
For Reading we will continue with Unit 3; Watch Me Change.  The next story will be farfallina and marcel.  In this book we will talk about the comprehension strategy “plot” and how friendships are formed and can change.  We will also review the letter Ff.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter!
In Math we will count by 10’s, identify dimes, trade 10 pennies for a dime, use dimes to 50 cents, practice patterns, and match numbers to a set.  Take some time to review skills and daily practice pages with your child.
**Students received their free, blue NSE T-shirt from the PTO before break.  Boys and girls can wear them now, but be sure to keep them handy for the class field trip in May!
School will be closed from December 22nd through January 1st.  We will be back to school on Wednesday, January 2, 2013.  **Take some time over the long holiday to review and practice Phonics, Handwriting, and Math.  It is also a great time to read together with your child and maybe even take the opportunity to let him/her “show off” his/her reading skills to visiting relatives!!!!
***Wednesday, January 2nd will be Day 1 on the special classes’ schedule.  Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Thursday, January 3rd.
We hope you like all the things we’ve made for the upcoming holidays: “My Little Ten Point” reindeer, personalized stockings, plates for Santa, and especially our Snow globe ornaments (with the help of Mrs. Potts).  Don’t forget to put out the reindeer food and Cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve.

**Best Wishes to Sophia Kessler, who will celebrate her 6th birthday on Thursday, December 27th!  Have a very Happy Birthday!!

Have a safe and happy holiday break- See you next year!
