Week of December 3-7, 2012

Kindergarten News

            ~This week in Phonics we will be learning the letter Rr and its sound as in rabbit and reindeer.  This is our 13^th letter so we will be half way through the alphabet! Start looking for your Show & Tell!  Word List 6 Test will be on Thursday 12/6 or Friday 12/7.  Please practice daily! 

            ~In Math we will make shapes on a geoboard, practice paying for items using pennies, identify ordinal position, create, describe, and extend shape patterns, practice telling time to the hour, and solve problems by acting them out.  Review the daily practice pages with your child!

            ~We will be reading the story Little Panda by Joanne Ryder.  This is an informational text, and we will be talking about “Animals Grow and Change”.  The comprehension skill we will target is compare and contrast and we will work with the letter sounds of /n/ and /b/.  Watch for the new Family Times newsletter in your child’s folder!

Just a few reminders and dates to mark on your calendars:

*Please remind your child to keep up with his/her schoolwork and behavior and keep in mind that Santa is watching and waiting to hear daily updates from Sam, our elf on the shelf!!!

*Don’t forget to return your letter to Santa by Monday, December 3^rd.  The postman will visit sometime this week to pick up our letters and mail them to Santa!!

*December Scholastic book orders and money are due on Wednesday, December 5^th.  Make note to Mrs. Potts if any orders are gifts for Christmas!

*Students will need to be prepared for colder weather @ recess.  Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats and/or scarves are needed.  Recess is a half an hour and unless the ground is snow-covered or it is too cold we will try to get outside for “fresh air”.

*The K-2 Music Program will be held on Monday, December 17^th @ 9:30 a.m. in the NSHS Auditorium.  Parents, grandparents, and all are invited!!!  Students can dress up —NO HATS, Reindeer antlers, or jingle bells, No Jeans, t-shirts, or high heels!

*The 4^th, 5^th, and 6^th grade Band and Chorus Concert will be held in the H.S. Auditorium @ 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 20^th.  All are invited to attend!!! 

*There will be an early dismissal for students on Friday, December 21^st  @ 1:00pm  Students will follow a compressed schedule. School will then be closed from December 22^nd until it reopens on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. 

Monday, December 3^rd is Day 2 and students will need gym attire and sneakers!  **Remember to pack library books for Library Class & Book Exchange on Day 4—Wednesday, December 5^th.
