Week of October 29-November 2, 2012

Kindergarten News
**This week we will be learning the consonant letter Mm and its sound as in monkey and mom.  We will have Show & Tell so please follow the classroom schedule.  Practice new Word List #2 & review, sign, and return Word List #1.
**In Reading we will read the book Animal Babies in Grasslands by Jennifer Schofield.  We will be talking about grassland animals, review the letter Pp and the /p/ sound, and practice the comprehension skill main idea.  The words we, my, and like will be introduced as new high frequency words. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter and phonics story “Pat the Cat” to be sent home!
**For Math we will be identifying and counting pennies, matching a number card to a set of objects, naming a shape using 3 attributes (shape, color, and size), acting out story problems using pennies, and identifying time to the hour.  Be sure to review daily practice pages!!!
**Friday November 2nd  will be our classroom Halloween parade and party from 1:40-3:00.  The parade will begin at 2:15pm.  Students will parade in the upper bus loop.  ALL are welcome to come to see the children parade.  Parents who are PTO members and have clearances on file will be able to enter the building for 1:40.  Parties will end by 3:00pm.  Your child should NOT wear his/her costume to school!  Please send the costume to school in a bag with your child’s name on the outside.  Students will get dressed in costumes with the help of teachers and homeroom helpers.  Keep in mind students will be dressing at school, so keep the costumes as simple as possible; (No spraying hair at school, or a face full of make-up at school).  **With trick-or-treat approaching, we ask that students do not bring candy for snacks at school and limit extra candy in lunch boxes too.  Thanks for your cooperation!
**Scholastic book orders for November are due by Wednesday, November 7th.  Orders can be placed online at scholastic.com or can be sent to school with your child.
**Due to a shortage of spare clothing in the nurse’s office, we are accepting any slightly used or outgrown shirts, pants, socks, sneakers and/or shoes for use when “accidents” occur at school.  These items would be used to change students into clean, dry clothes when an accident occurs and the child does not have a spare change of clothes of his/her own at school.  The nurse’s supply of clothing is low, especially for the smaller sizes for Kindergarten age children.  Donations would be greatly appreciated.  **Also, if any child has borrowed a change of clothes from the nurse, then please return it cleaned and ready for use in the nurse’s office again.  Thank you in advance!!
**Report cards will be distributed on Friday, November 2nd.  Please be sure to check your child’s folder next Friday!!
**Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 6th for grades K-3. More information was enclosed in your child’s folder.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Potts: apotts@northschuylkill.net or 874-3661, Ext. 3245.

**Monday, October 29th will be Day 3—Computer class.  **Students will need library books for exchange on Tuesday, October 30th & gym attire and sneakers on Friday, November 2nd.

Happy Birthday to Makenzi Rooney!  She celebrated her 6th birthday on Thursday, October 25th. J
