Kindergarten News
**This week we will be learning the consonant letter Nn
as in nest, nut, and November.
Please continue to review all the letters we have learned so far. Show and Tell will follow the
schedule. A note with an
attached Word List #1 is coming home for practice. **The list of words
will be tested on Friday, October 26th or Monday, October 29th. Take some time to practice at home with the blending of
sounds to read words. **This copy of the list is to be kept
at home.
**In Reading we will read the book Armadillo’s Orange by Jim Arnosky. We will be talking about orange groves and learning about
the letter Ss and the /s/ sound. We will focus on learning the
comprehension skill setting and
practice the learned high frequency words. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter to be sent home! **Continue
to practice sight word flashcards daily!!
**For Math we will be sorting a collection of objects,
ordering the numbers 1-10, counting backward from 10, identifying ordinal
position to fourth, and identifying a missing number. Please take some time at home to review these skills and
concepts.
**During the upcoming week the students and teachers will be
recognizing Red Ribbon Week
with the theme, “The Best Me is Drug
Free!” We will support the
event by wearing the following; Monday—“Turn
your back on drugs” (Wear your shirts
backwards); Tuesday—“Sock it to drugs day” (Wear crazy socks); Wednesday—“Twin day” (Support your friend and dress like them to
help them in making good choices); Thursday—“We are putting a cap on
drugs” (Wear crazy hat); Friday--“Team
up against drugs” (Wear NS spirit shirts).

**On Friday, October 26th the students,
teachers, and staff will be participating in the American Diabetes
Association’s School Walk for Diabetes. Weather permitting Kindergarten
will be walking outside at the High School track from 9:30-10:00. Students should be dressed for gym and
be sure to have a jacket as needed.
Those who are participating with the fund-raiser are asked to return
Fund-raiser envelopes to school on or before next Friday. To
learn more about diabetes or School Walk for Diabetes, please visit www.diabetes.org or call 1-800-DIABETES (342-2383).
**Since the cooler weather is upon us, please be sure your
child has a jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat (which can be kept in cubbies
or backpacks) so that when we go out for our 30 minute recess the students are
prepared for any changes in temperature or for the lengthy time outside. We try to get outside whenever
possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!
AN UPDATED
MENU for 10/22/12-11/2/12
was sent home in your child’s folder. Please be sure to replace your old October menu with
the updated one. The main lunches and alternates have changed for next
week and some of the main lunches have changed for the following week. Make note of the changes and discuss
the menu options each day with your child!!!
**Monday, October 22nd will be Day 3—Computer
class. **Students will need library
