Week of May 21-25, 2012

Kindergarten News
            In Phonics this week we will be working on digraph ch as in cheese and digraph ee as in sheep.   Continue to practice all digraphs, combinations, and letters learned.  We will NOT have Show & Tell.  Boys and girls are doing a terrific job applying these skills when spelling words!  Yahoo!!!     **Word List 26 will be tested on Wednesday, May 23rd.  Practice daily!!
                  For Reading we will begin our last story, The Night Worker.  We will discuss “Building at Night”.   We will be learning about plot.  Watch for your new Family Times newsletter! 
THERE WILL BE NO HOMEWORK for the rest of the school year, but please keep checking your child’s folder.
                  We will be reviewing Math skills and will continue testing skills and concepts learned throughout the school year.  Review time to the hour, money values and coin identification, numbers 0-31, and writing numbers correctly.
                  Tuesday, May 22nd is the big day!  Kindergarten Graduation will be held in the High School Auditorium beginning at 6:00pm.   Students should arrive at the lower level and report to the gymnasium around 5:30-5:45.   The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 PM, so be sure not to be late and allow time for parking!  **There are no reserved seats or a limit to the number of guests per student, therefore, seating is on a first come first serve basis!
**Remember students will be wearing caps and gowns and will NEED to wear a WHITE-COLLARED shirt for the evening performance (NOT to school during the day).  Shoes will be visible so plan accordingly.  Girls should not wear hair accessories that will get in the way of the cap. 
**Students will be exiting the auditorium and going to the gym after the performance.  Parents can look for their child in the gym by class/teacher.
PLEASE NOTE:  Graduation caps and gowns must be returned to the teacher after the graduation ceremonyTassels are to be taken home as a keepsake.

Thursday, May 24th is our class field trip to the Ringling Bros. Circus at the Giant Center in Hershey.  Students who are carrying their own lunch are reminded to be sure to bring a drink too.  Chaperones and students need to be at the school no later than 8:40.  We will be leaving the school as close to 9:00 am as possible.  Students will return during regular school hours.  Students are to wear their blue NSE T-shirts provided by the PTO.  Field trip details had been sent home previously in your child’s folder.  If you have any questions or concerns, then please contact Mrs. Potts.
                  Friday, May 25th will be the PTO Carnival.  This is a day of fun and games put together by the PTO.  Please dress your child for the weather and apply sunscreen as needed.  Students should wear sneakers and clothes for outdoor activities (NO dresses or skirts please!)  **Due to the Carnival the cafeteria will only be serving Turkey & Cheese Hoagies.  There will be NO ALTERNATE lunches.
                  Kindergarten will practice for graduation on Monday, May 21stand Tuesday, May 22nd in the mornings at the High School**Please try to have your child at school for the practices so he/she will know what to do for the evening ceremony on May 22nd.  Students will be walking to the high school, so please dress your child in shoes for walking and a jacket with a hood or an umbrella in case of rain.

**Anyone interested in ordering a Graduation DVD and has NOT done so yet, needs to send in the completed order form and money AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
