Week of May 14-18, 2012

Kindergarten News

In Phonics we will be learning the long vowel rule for a vowel consonant silent e pattern as in the words hose and kite. We refer to the silent e as a “sneaky e” which makes the vowel says its name. Please take some time to review long vowel sounds. No Show and Tell!!  **Word List 25 will be tested on Thursday, May 17^th.  Practice daily!!

For Math we will be finishing up our Saxon Math lessons and reviewing Test Taking Strategies. We will begin to review concepts and skills learned throughout the school year and will continue 4^th marking period testing.

We will read our next Reading story in Unit 6. It is titled, Building Beavers. It is an informational text about beavers. We will focus on the comprehension skill, main idea and will work with the short /e/ letter sound. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter!

The last book exchange for the school library was Thursday, May 10th. Be sure to locate and return books on your child’s scheduled day for book exchange. All books must be returned to the library by May 18th!

The last day for the Weekender backpack food program will be Friday, May 11^th.  After this delivery, bags need to be returned by Wednesday, May 16^th.

White order forms for our Kindergarten Graduation DVD were sent home in your child’s folder last week. Please return it to your child’s teacher no later than Monday, May 14^th. **Each DVD will be $10 and checks can be made out to Legal-Eze video.

Carnival lunch forms are due by Monday, May 14^th.  The lunch will be a deli hoagie, carrot sticks, an apple, and milk w/ a bag of pretzels & treat.  (Adult helper lunch cost is $3.10 and should be ordered with student lunch form.)

On Thursday, May 17^th the NSE Band and Chorus in grades 4,5, & 6 will perform their Spring Concert beginning at 7:00 pm.  All are invited to attend!  **The band and chorus will perform for all NSE kids in an encore performance on Friday, May 18^th.  (Students will be walking over to the High School, weather permitting!)

**Monday, May 13^th is Day 1.  Students will need sneakers and gym attire on Tuesday, May 14^th for gym class and library books for return on Thursday, May 17^th.

Upcoming Dates:   Tuesday, May 22^nd  – Kindergarten Graduation @ 6:00 pm @ High School Auditorium **Students will be wearing caps and gowns and will NEED to wear a white collared shirt.   Thursday- May 24^th Field Trip- Ringling Brothers Circus @ Giant Center in Hershey.  **Just a reminder, students will need to wear their blue NSE shirts (that were given to them from the PTO) on the field trip—so have it ready!  Friday- May 25^th – Carnival Day!  Monday, May 28^th – NO SCHOOL Memorial Day  Thursday, May 31^st  – Last day of school (Early Dismissal @ 11:45)
