Week of March 26-30, 2012

Kindergarten News

· This week we will be learning the letter Qq as in quilt. The girls will finally get to be Queens for a Day on Wednesday, March 28th! We will learn about combination “qu” too. The boys and girls will even be invited to participate in a special wedding ceremony for Q and U on Monday, April 2nd (Details will be sent home later.) There will be NO show and tell for the letter Qq. **Word List 19 will be tested on Thursday, March 29th or Friday, March 30th! Please practice daily!

· For Reading we will introduce the next story titled Messenger, Messenger by Robert Burleigh. It is a rhyming story and we will be talking about transportation jobs. The comprehension skill we will focus on with this story is compare and contrast and the phonics skill will be the short /u/ sound. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter!

· In Math, we will be solving a problem by drawing a picture and looking for a pattern, identifying the numbers 11-30, identifying a sphere and ordering objects by size, sorting coins and identifying a quarter and a dollar, and covering designs using tangrams. Take some time to review the daily practice pages that come in your child’s folder.

· Report cards for the 3rd marking period were sent home Friday. Parents are asked to sign and return the report cards as soon as possible. If there are any questions or concerns and/or a conference is requested, then please contact the teacher either at apotts@northschuylkill.net or (570) 874-3661 Ext. 3245.

· Just a reminder: Kindergarten Physicals will be held on Thursday, March 29th.

· Kindergarten Graduation Pictures will be taken on Friday, March 30th. (There will be NO make-up picture day.) Try to have money and portrait package envelope to school on Thursday, March 29th. (Cash or checks made payable to P.S.P) All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a WHITE COLLARED shirt. Girls should not have ponytails high on their heads or wear big hair accessories since they will be wearing a graduation cap!

**If you do NOT wish to purchase pictures, please send a note stating that, so the teacher knows your child just didn’t forget to bring the envelope/money. Thank you!!!
