Week of October 31-November 4, 2011

Kindergarten News

**This week we will be learning the consonant letter Nn as in nest, nut, and November. Please continue to review all the letters we have learned so far. Show and Tell will follow the schedule.

**In Reading we will read the book Animal Babies in Grasslands by Jennifer Schofield. We will be talking about grassland animals, review the letter Pp and the /p/ sound, and practice the comprehension skill main idea. The words we, my, and like will be introduced as new high frequency words. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter and phonics story “Pat the Cat” to be sent home!

**For Math we will be ordering the numbers 0-10, identifying a missing number, playing BINGO with the numbers 0-9, identifying and counting pennies, and matching a number card to a set of objects. Be sure to review daily practice pages!!!

**Parent/teacher conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 1st. Parents can either attend the 4:00pm or 5:00pm session. If you are unable to attend please let the teacher know whether a phone conference is needed. Yellow forms were sent home last week with details. The sessions will begin promptly at 4 and 5 so plan to be on time. Thank you!

**Report cards will be distributed on Friday, November 4th. Please be sure to check your child’s folder!!!

**Scholastic book orders for November are due by Thursday, November 10th. Orders can be placed online at scholastic.com or can be sent to school with your child.

**Since the colder weather is upon us, please be sure your child has a warmer jacket, mittens or gloves, and a hat (which can be kept in cubbies or backpacks) so that when we go out for our 30 minute recess the students are prepared for any changes in temperature or for the lengthy time outside. We try to get outside whenever possible—if dressed properly, the fresh air does us good!!!

**Thank you to ALL the classroom helpers who helped with the Halloween party and parade. It was a BOO-tiful time for all! Have a safe and Happy Halloween Weekend.

**Monday, October 31st will be Day 4—Library class, so do not forget to bring library books for exchange. **Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Thursday, November 3rd.
