Week of March 28-April 1, 2011



Kindergarten News

· This week we will be learning the letter Qq as in quilt. The girls will finally get to be Queens for a Day on Wednesday, March 30th! We will learn about combination “qu” too. The boys and girls will even be invited to participate in a special wedding ceremony for Q and U on Friday, April 1st! (Details sent home in folder.) There will be NO show and tell for the letter Qq. **Word List 19 will be tested on Thursday, March 31st! Please practice daily!

· For Reading we will introduce the next story titled Abuela by Arthur Dorros. It will be a fiction story about a city adventure. We will focus on the comprehension skill setting and will review the sound of /e/. Watch for your new Family Times newsletter!

· In Math, we will be solving a problem by drawing a picture and looking for a pattern, identifying the numbers 11-30, identifying a sphere and ordering objects by size, sorting coins and identifying a quarter and a dollar, and covering designs using tangrams. Take some time to review the daily practice pages that come in your child’s folder.

· The 4th marking period will begin on Tuesday, 3/29/11. Report cards for the 3rd marking period will be sent home on Friday, April 1st. Parents are asked to sign and return the report cards as soon as possible. · FYI: Due to a scheduling conflict with Dr. Langon, the Kindergarten physicals will NOT be held on March 31st. The date has been changed to Thursday, April 14th. Please make note of the change!!

· Monday, March 28th will be Day 4 of the special classes’ schedule. **Students will need gym attire w/ sneakers and library books for exchange on Thursday, March 31st.

· Below are the scheduled dates for the Kindergarten Field Trip, Kindergarten Graduation Picture Day, and Graduation Ceremony:

Kindergarten Graduation Picture Day:

**Thursday, April 7th - Be sure to have money and portrait package envelope the morning of pictures. All students will be photographed for the class photo and will need a white collared shirt. **Keep in mind that girls will be wearing graduation caps, so please no ponytails or hair accessories that would interfere with the caps.

Field Trip to the Circus:

**Thursday, May 26h at the Giant Center in Hershey. **Details will be sent home at a later date.

Kindergarten Graduation:

**Monday, May 23rd-- beginning promptly at 6:30pm at the High School Auditorium for all Kindergarten classes. Family and friends are all invited to attend!
