Kindergarten News
*This week in Phonics we will be learning the consonant letter Vv as in vest and violin. There will be NO Show and Tell. **Word List 15 will be tested on Thursday, March 3rd. Practice daily!
*For Reading we will begin the story, My Lucky Day by Keiko Kasza. It is an animal fantasy (fiction) story and we will focus on the comprehension skill cause and effect. This week we will review the /l/ sound and connect it with the letter Ll.
*In Math we will be working with identifying a cylinder and ordering objects by height & paying for items to 25 cents and 50 cents using nickels.
*Wednesday, March 2nd is Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We will be reading some great books and making some fun things to go along with the stories. On Friday, March 4th some students from Bloomsburg University will visit our classroom to read Dr. Seuss books and do a follow up activity with the students. We will have a guest reader, the mayor of Frackville, and will work with Mrs. Selgrade’s 3rd grade class with the book “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”! Be sure to ask your child about their day!
*Toothbrush charts are due back next week. Any student who returns his/her chart will receive a “dental health” treat from Mrs. Potts. Remember to continue to eat healthy foods, brush and floss your teeth, and visit a dentist at least once a year to keep your smile looking great!
*Newspaper in Education Week is a program sponsored by the Pottsville Republican & Herald to promote interest in the newspaper in our schools. It will be starting on Monday, March 7th and continue through Friday, March 11th. Be sure to watch for additional notes that will be sent home in your child’s folder.
*New Scholastic book order forms for March have been sent home. Anyone interested in ordering should return orders w/ money, or order online, by Thursday, March 10th.
*NSE PTO will be hosting a spaghetti dinner Friday, March 4th from 4-7 at the NSE cafeteria to benefit the fire victims in Girardville February 23rd. Eat in or take out! Cost per person will be $6.00. ALL PROCEEDS will go directly to the fire victims. Please be sure to return the form sent home in your child’s folder by Wednesday, March 2nd. Any monetary donations will be graciously accepted and if anyone would like to volunteer at the dinner please call Dana @ 570-933-2582.
Monday (2/28/11) will be Day 4 on the special classes’ schedule. **Boys and girls will need library books, sneakers, and gym attire on Thursday, March 3rd –Day 3
