Week of February 14-18, 2011



Kindergarten News

**This week we will be learning about the consonant letter Yy and its sound as in yarn and yellow. Please continue practicing writing and identifying all the letters we have learned so far. We will be having Show and Tell and may even have a yogurt taste test. Yum! Yum!

Word List 13 will be tested on Thursday, February 17th. Practice daily!!!

**For Reading, our next story will be titled, “Hide Clyde!” It will be about a chameleon that changes so he can hide, or camouflage himself. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea. We will review the short /o/ sound in words and continue to work with the high frequency words; they, of, and you.

**In Math we will be copying line segments, shapes, and designs on a Geoboard, ordering objects by length and measuring length using nonstandard units, making an ABC pattern using pattern blocks, and acting out some stories using teddy bear counters. Please review daily practice pages at home.

**Even though Anti-Bully week is over we will continue to collect “Coins for Critters” throughout the month. Also, take some time to talk with your child about bullying and discuss what he/she learned this week.

**On Monday, February 14th we will be having our Valentine’s party. Valentine’s will be “delivered” at the party, so be sure to bring them on Monday!

**Due to the change of the Act 80 Day on Friday, Feb. 18th to a regular school day, the cafeteria will be serving a Hot Dog on a roll w/ a vegetable, fruit, and ½ pint of milk. The alternate will be School Pizza or a Chicken Wrap.

Monday, February 14th will be Day 3 – gym class.

Don’t forget to wear sneakers and gym attire!

Library class will be Thurs., Feb. 17th so be sure to pack your books.
