Week of December 6-10, 2010



Kindergarten News

**This week we will be learning the consonant letter Ff as in fish and feather. Start looking for your Show and Tell for the letter Ff. Be sure to keep practicing blending and reading words from the weekly word lists. *Word List 5 test will be Thursday, December 9th, so please practice!

**In math we will make shapes on a geoboard, practice paying for items using pennies, identify ordinal position, create, describe, and extend shape patterns, practice telling time to the hour, and solve problems by acting them out. Review the daily practice pages with your child!

**This week in Reading we will begin the story A Bed for the Winter by Karen Wallace. It will be an informational text. We will discuss Fiction and Non-Fiction, winter homes, and work on the comprehension skill, sequence. We will also review the short /i/ sound.

**Please remind your child to keep up with his/her schoolwork and behavior. With the excitement of the holiday approaching, students need to remember school is not finished yet! Thank you for your support.

**Just a reminder: December Scholastic book orders and money are due on Tuesday, December 7th. Make note to Mrs. Potts if any orders are gifts for Christmas!

**Thank you to all the parents who volunteered to be Santa’s helpers for the PTO Santa’s Shop. The students really enjoyed shopping!! If anyone still needs to shop, please send in money on Monday, since the shop will be closing next week.

** The PTO Fundraiser Pick-up is scheduled for Wednesday, December 8th . If your child participated in the fundraiser, then please be sure to pick up the orders at the school between 3 and 8 pm.

** A K-2 holiday gathering will be held on Friday, Dec. 10th from 6-8 in the NSE cafeteria. Admission is $2.00 and snacks & drinks will be available for purchase. Parents must sign their child/children in and out. Parents who would like to help out should call Liz Roberts @ 874-3566 or Missy Perneta @ 874-1875 by Mon. 12/6.

**The Kindergarten through 2nd grade Holiday Music Program will be held in the High School Auditorium on Monday, December 13th beginning promptly at 9:30am. Parents, grandparents, and all are invited!!! Students can dress up —NO HATS, Reindeer antlers, or jingle bells, No Jeans, t-shirts, or high heels!

**The NS High School Rotary Interact Club is sponsoring a Christmas Party for the district’s Kindergarten students on Sunday, December 12th from 2:00-4:00pm @ the cafeteria of St. Catherine’s Medical Center. Please RSVP to Erica Ferraiolo (elferraiolo@yahoo.com) with the student’s name and how many adults will be attending. Snacks and refreshments will be served and Santa may visit!!

Monday will be Day 4 and students will need library books, gym attire and sneakers on Thursday, Dec. 9th.
