Week of December 13-17, 2010

Kindergarten News

~This week in Phonics we will be learning the letter Rr and its sound as in rabbit and reindeer. This is our 13th letter so we will be half way through the alphabet! Start looking for your Show & Tell! Word List 6 Test will be on Thursday, December 16th.

~In Math we will be working on identifying a cube and counting with one-to-one correspondence, matching a set of objects to a number card, copying line segments, shapes, and designs on a geoboard, and counting by 10’s. We will also be introducing dimes.

~We will be reading the story Whose Garden Is It? by Mary Ann Hoberman. It will be a rhyming story about gardens and plants. We will be discussing more with realism and fantasy. After this story, we will have completed Unit 2 and will take our end of the unit booklet test.

~All Santa letters (sent home on Wed.) are due back to school as soon as possible. A local mailman will pick up the letters on Thursday, December 16th.

~Anyone interested in getting the animals at the SPCA a “gift for the holidays” are asked to send it to school by Friday, December 17th. All items collected will be given to the SPCA on Monday, December 20th. (A wish list was sent home on Thursday along with more details.)

~Our “Scary Face” book has been misplaced. If anyone comes across it at home, then please return it to school. Thank you!

Just a few reminders:

*Please remind your child to keep up with his/her schoolwork and behavior and keep in mind that Santa is watching!!!

*Students will need to be prepared for colder weather @ recess. Warm coats, gloves or mittens, hats and/or scarves are needed. Recess is a half an hour and unless the ground is snow-covered or it is too cold we will try to get outside for “fresh air”.

*The N.S.H.S. Rotary Interact Club Christmas Party for Kindergarten students and parents will be held this Sunday, December 12th from 2-4pm @ the cafeteria of St. Catherine’s Medical Center. **If there is bad weather, then the party will be moved to the 19th –same place and time.

*The K-2 Music Program will be held on Monday, December 13th @ 9:30 a.m. in the NSHS Auditorium. Parents, grandparents, and all are invited!!! Students can dress up —NO HATS, Reindeer antlers, or jingle bells, No Jeans, t-shirts, or high heels!

*The 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Band and Chorus Concert will be held in the H.S. Auditorium @ 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 16th. All are invited to attend!!! (Students and teachers will be traveling to the HS on Friday, Dec. 17th to see and hear an encore presentation!)

*The classroom Christmas party will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd from 1:30-3:00 p.m.

*There will be an early dismissal for students on Thursday, December 23rd @ 11:45 a.m. Students will follow a compressed schedule. School will then be closed from December 24th until it reopens on Monday, January 3, 2011.

Monday, December 13th is Day 1. Students will need gym attire and sneakers on Wednesday, December 15th and library books on Thursday, December 16th
