Kindergarten News

*This week in Phonics we will be learning the consonant letter Vv as in vest and violin. We will try Show and Tell so start looking for an item or two to share.

*For Reading we will be finishing our story book on Seeds and will try to grow an avocado plant from the pit! Our next story will be titled Hide, Clyde and will be about a chameleon that changes so he can hide, or camouflage himself. We will introduce the comprehension skill, main idea. We will review the short /o/ sound in words and continue to work with the high frequency words; they, of, and you.

*In Math we will be working with measurement. We’ll be comparing, ordering, and measuring length, capacity, and weight. **Please continue to practice identifying the coins penny, nickel, and dime and review their values.

*Newspaper in Education Week ends on Friday, March 5th. Check for Mrs. Potts’ ad in the classified section of the Republican and Herald newspaper. Ads can be sent to school next week (March 8-12) for treats. The yellow “I’m a Reader” forms, for those who participated, should be returned to the teacher next week as well with a parent’s signature and initial for each day of the week.

*New Scholastic book order forms for March have been sent home. Anyone interested in ordering should return orders w/ money, or order online, by Tuesday, March 16th.

*Kindergarten registration for the 2010-2011 school year will be held next week, March 8-12. Registration is open to all residents of the NS School District. Please pass along this information to anyone with children ready to begin Kindergarten in the fall. Appointments should be scheduled with the office.

*Monday, March 8th will be the next PTO meeting in the school cafeteria @ 6:30pm. All are invited and encouraged to attend.

*An order form for a personalized copy of the book Butterflies, Bears, and Other Poems for Children,by the author Patricia Herber, was sent home in your child’s folder. This collection of poems was written and illustrated by the author who visited our school on Thursday, March 4th. Ask your child about the author’s visit and what he/she thought about the book.

FYI: North Schuylkill Youth Soccer Association will be holding registrations for the 2010 season March 20 & 27, and April 3 & 10, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at NS High School, Driver's Ed room (lower level entrance in the back of the school). Child must be at least 4 years of age on 7/31/10. Fee is $35 per player and any late sign-ups (after April 10) will be charged a $ 15 late fee.
